な現象は、巨視的に見れば、散逸ソリトンという概念と野火との類似性に着目す
ることで容易に理解できる。熱で誘起されたシリカガラスの強い光吸収と、レー
ザーエネルギーの極度に集中した供給が、閉じ込められたプラズマの光源方向へ
の移動を促し、その背後に壊滅的な損傷を残す。この周期的空孔生成過程は、微
視的な観点に立つことにより、すなわち空孔形状の統計的分析と超高速ビデオ撮
影により明らかになった。損傷列の弾丸形状は、移動するプラズマの背後にある
中空のシリカ融液内の内因的な架橋生成と、それに続くファイバに沿った急激な
温度勾配下での空孔の圧縮の結果により生じたものと説明できる。
