NIMS, as an independent research
institute in Japan
• It is quite appealing to show a collections of results below (Figs. 1-4 and Table 1) to the audience; external funding
agencies and politic organizations. NIMS performs not only significant outcome in multidisciplinary area but also other
major fields as whole. The NIMS trend also relates to a trend in Japan and world (see the comment in 2-a’).
• Average relative impact of NIMS shows higher achievement than Japan baseline, and higher than World baseline in
metallurgy, multidisciplinary and materials science. Particularly, NIMS has proved its outstanding performance in
multidisciplinary among other top universities and research organizations in recent 5 years. It is important that Japan
has a central and independent research institute that shows a strength of research impact in the filed in Japan.
• It is also important that NIMS produces papers that is highest citation impact per paper among other Japanese
organizations in recent years. (Table 1) This shows a quality of papers of NIMS rather than productivity of papers that
normally relates to the number of researchers (producers) in an organization. |
